This is my first year at NCCAE and I am so excited to be here!
Here's a little about me...As long as I can remember ART has been an integral part of my life. Early in my education I was inspired by a wonderful art teacher who helped me discover my passion for art. To this day, I am a practicing artist with a BA in Art and Psychology and a Master’s in Fine Arts. I am also a Dutch national, with Cuban-Spanish heritage, brought up in the richly diverse Caribbean leeward island of Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. I speak Four languages; English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento.
In my free time I like to paint, cook, read, dance, go to the beach and the movies, but most of all I love to hang out with my family.
This year in art, your student will be doing all sorts of amazing things. We’ll study the elements of art and principles of design; learn about color theory, drawing techniques and basic construction. We’ll also explore a variety of art movements as well as the lives/art of a variety of artists. All the while, I’ll be pulling in math, language arts and social studies connections for some sneaky cross-curricular learning. I will also be using choice based approaches to learning as well as integrate a Google classroom to my art room. It is my goal that all students will leave art with a strong capability to solve creatively, using 21st century skills.
